Mixed Media

Danse, Mixed Media.

Using a live model, I drew these short gestural drawings to communicate the unsurpassed energy and power of expression dancers possess. I bound the drawings into pages of a book and incased them in a portfolio I designed and built, which was inspired by minimalistic Scandinavian design.  My choice of materials, subject matter and drawing style of this piece attempts to capture the simplicity and beauty of raw emotion in our lives when we chose to dance, metaphorically and literally. The title is Danish for “Dance”.

Womb Room, Installation piece, Mixed Media.

Time in the womb can include a variety of different experiences. This installation piece invites viewers to thoughtfully interact in this mystery.  Recreated in this gallery space is the experience of a healthy and nourished womb, characterized by comfortable surroundings and soothing sounds, a unhealthy womb communicated by a rough and uncomfortable internal environment, as well as the experience of being a twin and sharing the womb experience with another life.

Cultivated, Mixed Media.

Inspired by Wendell Berry’s memoir Remembering, this piece speaks to fact that communities thrive when brought together by a return to working the land and harvesting the fruit of their labor together. Recently, we have seen a re-recognition of the communal value of investing in the land with farmer’s markets and the farm to table trend.  The process-oriented nature of this piece stresses the importance of formation and the necessity for flourishing communal bonds to be cultivated.
